And then there were seven.
Shawn Knight extended the streak of different Super Late Model winners without a repeat victor Saturday night, overtaking Alan Wilson six circuits from the finish to win the 50-lap main event for the Budweiser Championship Series at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Wilson was poised for the first double-dip of the season after taking over on lap 44, but Knight, who took over Justin Gibbons’ ride this week, raced all the way from the rear of the field to stake his claim to the winner’s circle.
Kyle Treadwell was third, followed by Spencer Morse in fourth for the best finish of his rookie campaign, and Vanna Brackett fifth.
Bryce Mains and Matt Williams ran away from the Street Stock field to settle that main event among themselves. Williams lost some momentum in the high lane on the final circuit, and Mains held on for the checkered flag.
Andrew Breton completed the podium with Calvin Rose Jr. and Josh Childs giving chase. Only one caution flag slowed the event.
Scott Alexander emerged victorious in the Modified portion of the program, keeping Evan Armington and Scott McDaniel at bay over the 25-lap distance. Matt Sanborn and Nik Coates capped the top five.
Jon Lizotte maintained his perfect mark in the revived Figure Eight division, steering clear of runner-up Alan Higgins and third-place Mike St. Germain.
Jamie Heath padded his win total with a 20-lap score in the Bandit feature over Shaun Hinkley and Cam Childs. Dan Wade and Bill Kimball completed the lead quintet.
Fowler fifth Beech Ridge winner
The same no-repeat pattern prevails in the headline class at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, where Mike Fowler made it five winners in five NASCAR Pro Series features.
Fowler held off heat race winner Don Colpritt and Curt Gerry for the 50-lap win.
Ryan Hewins of Leeds returned to Wildcat victory lane for the second time since taking his racing operation to the Scarborough oval. Todd Libby ran second in the 30-lap dash, with Ryan Villacci third.
Dalton Gagnon topped the Sport Series field in their 35-lap contest, securing his first win in three years. He kept Brandon Ingalls and Jake Madore in tow.
Childs wins 75-lap special
Jimmy Childs of Leeds saved his tires early, made the move to the front on the halfway lap and pulled away in the 75-lap Outlaw Mini main event Saturday night at Wiscasset Speedway.
Rob Greenleaf was second, with early leader Toby Wells third. Emerson Cayer joined Wells in the trip from New Hampshire and made it pay off with a fourth-place finish, just ahead of Bryan Lancaster.
Good fortunes for the Hewins racing family again extended throughout the state, with the brother tandem of Kurt and Kyle running one-two in Wiscasset’s Strictly Street 25-lap feature. Dan Brown of Peru, Corey Morgan of Lewiston and Jerry Robbins rounded out the lead group.
Nick Hinkley was tops in the 35-lap Late Model Sportsman scramble. Shane Clark held off ageless Dave St. Clair for second, with Chris Thorne fourth and Will Collins fifth.
Mark Lucas led the 30-lap Modified encounter. Kevin Douglass was second, chased across the stripe by Dixfield’s Ryan Robbins. Nick Reno and Jairet Harrison were next in line.
Laperle holds off Clark, Hamlin
Patrick Laperle of St. Denis, Quebec, kept bragging rights on that side of the border Saturday night, winning the Pro All Stars Series North Habitations Dany Lagace 150 at Autodrome Chaudiere.
Among the competitors in the super late model main event was NASCAR Sprint Cup star Denny Hamlin, who finished seventh.
Cassius Clark of Farmington was runner-up, 1.5 seconds off Laperle’s winning pace. Travis Benjamin, D.J. Shaw and Mike Rowe were third through fifth, respectively.
Ben Rowe and Glen Luce, both of Turner, had problems during the race and wound up 18th and 19th in the 22-car field.
Helliwell’s third ACT
Wayne Helliwell Jr. matched Joey Polewarczyk Jr. with his third American-Canadian Tour victory of the season Saturday night at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H.
Polewarczyk snagged second, with Travis Stearns of Auburn third. Mike Ziter and Owen Remick wrapped up the top five.
