LEWISTON — Mad Science of Maine, 11 a.m., Children’s Room of Lewiston Public Library, watch Mad Scientists demonstrate science behind superpowers using parabolic ears, laser modulators, a jet pack and more.
TUESDAY, June 23
AUBURN — Teen Summer Reading Program kickoff for ages 12-18, 3-4 p.m., Auburn Public Library, focus is real life heroes. Event will feature the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, heroes to many lost, surrendered and abandoned animals. Meet some amazing people, and a few of their animals, who do this great work. Teens encouraged to bring cat or dog food donations, family members welcome.
WEDNESDAY, June 24
LEWISTON — Maine Poetry Express offering night of poetry with Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair, 7 p.m., Guthries Cafe/Independent Theater. Free, open to all ages. Final stop as McNair winds down his five-year tenure as poet laureate.
LEWISTON — Free public symposium, “Public Art and Heritage,” 5 p.m., Callahan Hall at Lewiston Public Library. One-hour event features four presenters, Maine Historic Preservation Commissioner Earle Shettleworth, Maine Arts Commission Executive Director Julie Richard, Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium Director Jesse Salisbury, and University of Southern Maine art professor Michael Shaughnessey.
AUBURN — Free concert by Auburn Community Concert Band, 7-8:15 p.m., Festival Plaza, Main Street, ample free parking inside parking garage across the street. Rain location is Franco American Heritage Center in Lewiston.
AUBURN — New program “Queers and Allies” for teens by Outright L/A, 3-5 p.m., Auburn Public Library. Youth-driven educational program where students work to create positive atmosphere. Program is part of the “Unmask!” Summer Reading Program exploring the hero in you.

LEWISTON — West African drumming by Jordan Benissan, a master African drummer from Togo and Colby College teacher, 1 p.m., Callahan Hall, Lewiston Public Library.
SATURDAY, June 27
LEWISTON — Lindsay and her Puppet Pals, 11 a.m. Lewiston Public Library, highly interactive, comedic performance accompanied by jumbo-sized puppets. Show will feature capes, masks and unlikely puppet heroes demonstrating courage. Free for children of all ages.
LEWISTON — Silver and Gold Masses to honor couples marking milestone wedding anniversaries in 2015, 4 p.m., Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus St., Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate.
