LEWISTON — Forage Market, the popular cafe/shop local hot spot, is for sale. Kind of.

According to Kevin Fletcher, the real estate agent representing owner Allen Smith, Smith is looking for the right person to lease the Lisbon Street space and run something Forage-like or even better.

If he doesn’t find a good fit, Forage stays.

It’s been on the market a little over a week, and Fletcher already has gotten interest.

“Forage is not closing the doors and is not shutting down, but we are trying to find a tenant to take over,” he said.

Smith owns the 178 Lisbon St. building that houses Forage. He and Cody LaMontagne opened the eatery-market in 2012 after a major renovation of the space. An employee on Monday afternoon said Smith was gone for the day and that LaMontagne was no longer with Forage.

Fletcher said the aim is to keep it as a restaurant. One idea is a new venture that would expand the hours, potentially keeping it open at night.

“You’ve got brick-oven bagels (made on site), maybe they expand into brick-oven pizzas at night, put in a little bar with a few taps and serve some micro-beers,” he said. “There’s a number of different things that you can see that the space can be used for, and that’s kind of what we’re looking for. Somebody that either wants to expand what’s already there or bring in a new, fresh idea.”

The name Forage Market could transfer to the new business owner, he said.

Fletcher’s listing with Malone Commercial Brokers describes the property as two floors with 2,700 square feet each, leasing for $4,000 a month, plus property taxes, insurance and maintenance.
