LISBON — The School Committee voted 4-0 Monday to send a proposed school budget to a public hearing July 21.
The $15.1 million school budget approved by the Town Council on May 19 was rejected by voters June 9. Responses to a question on the warrant showed voters thought the budget was too low.
The Town Council will discuss the recommended school budget after the public hearing.
The budget will go to a referendum Aug. 11.
A few of the budget lines could still change, Committee Chairwoman Traci Austin said.
The committee is waiting to learn how much the state subsidy will be and results of an inspection for a handicap bus the state qualified for a lease-purchase program. Under the program, the town would receive a small subsidy for a new bus, but the committee is waiting to hear if keeping the bus another year is a viable option.
Council to hear police study
LISBON — A third-party police study, commissioned by the Town Council, will be presented at the council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Town Office.
The purpose of the study was to determine if the police force could be reduced and still maintain its level of service.
In other business, the council will discuss a wooded portion of a lot off Gartley Street that could potentially be sold. The land is part of the lot where the superintendent’s office sits.
