MEXICO – The Police Department responded to 68 complaints from June 22 to June 29, including the following:
* At 12:18 p.m. June 29, a Richardson Township resident reported that while he was at the Mexico Wal-Mart, someone stole two hubcaps off of his vehicle. Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said that the hubcaps cost around $100 a piece. The case is under investigation.
* At 4:24 p.m. June 28, a Swift River Road resident reported that a vehicle had rolled over several times and he was unsure if the driver was injured. Officers discovered Aaron McCaffrey, 30, of Rumford, was driving on the road when his 2005 Chevy Trailblazer struck a mailbox, causing the vehicle to go off the road and flip over.
“Witnesses said that the car rolled over at least three times,” Hodsdon said. He said McCaffrey received minor injuries. The SUV was demolished.
* At 8:59 p.m. June 26, a patron of Tommy Guns Pitstop said someone entered his vehicle, stole his wallet and fled. Police are following up on leads.
* At 5:54 p.m. June 26, a Highland Terrace resident reported that while he was gone from his house, someone took a sledgehammer to the front door. Hodsdon said that nothing appeared to be missing and the sledgehammer was left on the porch. Police have no suspects.
* At 1:02 p.m. June 24, an Oak Street resident reported someone entered their unlocked vehicle and stole their wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash, credit cards and other personal items. Police have suspects.
* At 4:45 p.m. June 23, a resident reported a hit-and-run car crash on Main Street. Hodsdon said a suspect was identified and is being charged.
* At 10:58 p.m. June 22, officers was patrolling the streets when he came upon three female juveniles, one of whom was reported missing from Rumford.
“We have a curfew that was approved this year for minors under the age of 17, so my officer decided to inform the juveniles that they were out past curfew and provided them with copies of the ordinance,” Hodsdon said. The curfew is from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
“We knew the ordinance would help us keep kids off the streets at inappropriate times, but it ended up helping us find a missing girl,” Hodsdon said.
* At 8 p.m. June 21, a Granite Street resident reported someone forcibly entered their residence and stole over $2,000 worth of personal property, including jewelry, cash and memorabilia. Police have suspects and are following leads.
* At 11:42 a.m. June 19, a Brook Street resident reported someone forcibly entered their residence. Police have a suspect.
* At 3:25 a.m. June 18., an Osgood Avenue resident reported that someone had spray-painted their pulp truck. “We believe that the vandalism is connected with other reports of vandalism on that street,” Hodsdon said.
* At 9:36 a.m. June 15, a Summit Street resident reported someone forcibly entered their house and stole $12,000 worth of property. Hodsdon said that within a day of the break-in being reported, officers arrested two 17-year-old males on burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges.
“One of the males was sent to the Maine Youth Center, while the other one was given a court date of July 27,” Hodsdon said.
