MINOT — Fire Chief Dean Campbell told selectmen Monday that concrete work for the addition to Orchard Fire Station will start this week.

Campbell said a 5-foot frost wall will be poured this week. Similar work will soon start at Central Fire Station off Woodman Hill Road.

In March, voters approved plans for a 20- by 46-foot addition, primarily for training space, at Orchard Station, and an 18- by 60-foot addition for a rescue vehicle bay at Central Fire Station.

Voters approved $180,000 for the projects.

In May, selectmen awarded the contract for concrete pads and building shells to O’Connor Construction of Hebron for just under $60,000.

On Monday, selectmen authorized Town Administrator Arlan Saunders to enter into a four-year financing agreement with Androscoggin Bank for $180,000. The first payment is due Nov. 15.

Saunders said he committed the town to join the Androscoggin Valley Council of Government’s road salt bid. The town has signed up for 800 tons of salt and 1,000 gallons of calcium chloride. He said the price per ton of salt has gone up about 10 percent, from $55 to $61, for the coming winter.

In other business, selectmen learned the Minot-Hebron Athletic Association received a $1,000 grant it would like to use to install metal roofs on the dugouts. The board requested that an association representative attend a meeting to answer questions about the source and limits of the grant, and why the association is seeking metal roofing on the dugouts that have new or fairly new roofs.

Selectman Eda Tripp told the board that the town assessing audit has been completed and the town continues to be in good standing, with assessments near market values. The board thanked Tripp for her outstanding efforts as head assessor.
