ALFRED (AP) — The York County sheriff says three women being held at the county jail became ill after overdosing on heroin laced with fentanyl that was smuggled into the facility.
Sheriff William King says two inmates were taken to a hospital and a third was being treated by the jail’s medical staff. WMTW-TV (http://bit.ly/1CF5o1Q ) reported the first overdose was discovered on Thursday afternoon when one of the inmates was found unresponsive on a cell bunk.
The sheriff says that inmate was treated and released from a hospital. Another inmate later admitting snorting heroin. A third became ill from snorting it and needed to be transported to a hospital. The inmates were not identified.
King says investigators learned two women who had been booked the day before smuggled the drugs into the jail.
