AUGUSTA — State Rep. William Noon, D-Sanford, died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer, according to a news release from House Speaker Mark Eves.

Noon, 66, died just one day before the Legislature was set to reconvene and finalize its work for 2015.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague Rep. Bill Noon,” Eves said in the statement. “For those of us who had the honor to serve with Bill, he will be remembered for his strength and dedication to his community. Despite his battle with cancer, Bill remained committed to standing up for his constituents at the State House. He was a fighter. We will all remember Bill for his advocacy for the environment and for Maine’s farms, his love of his family and work, and for his sense of humor even during the hardest of times.”

Noon was serving his second term in the Maine House of Representatives as a member of the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee. He was a small-business owner and a longtime member of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine.

Noon is survived by his wife, Jean, two children and three grandchildren.
