ROXBURY — Selectmen learned Tuesday night that the summer roads account has $5,000, but there are probably $10,000 worth of projects to do.

Selectman Timothy Derouche said Wednesday that they need to decide whether they spend the money or carry it over to next year along with some projects.

The Town Office parking lot will be paved this year. Derouche said selectmen voted to put that project out to bid as soon as possible.

In other municipal news, selectmen are working with the Cemetery Committee to determine which of 11 to 14 gravestones from the 1800s in the Frye/Mexico Cemetery on Route 120 are Mexico’s or Roxbury’s to repair or right. The cemetery is in both towns. The stones appear to have fallen over on their own.

“We’re trying to determine whose is whose before we pay to have them fixed,” Derouche said.

The board also voted to order a replacement 4- by 8-foot Town Hall sign, Deputy Clerk Nina Hodgkins said Wednesday.

“We just have a tarp up right now,” Derouche said. “I just realized that. It’s plastic.”

Both said Fire Chief Ray Carver is still working on getting dry hydrants in town and will meet Thursday, July 23, with an engineer from Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls to look over potential sites in the Horseshoe Valley area, Roxbury Pond Village and the lake.

Carver also ordered a new air compressor to replace the old one that stopped working, Derouche said.

The dumpster for summer residents at Roxbury Pond wasn’t big enough so a larger one will be installed by Archie’s Inc. of Mexico. Derouche said this is the third year it has been there and it had always been big enough for the amount of trash left.

Hodgkins said it was overflowing with trash for the second week in a row, prompting the call to Archie’s to replace it.

Derouche attributes the increase to proactive work by town officials advising seasonal residents to use the dumpster.

“A lot of residents used to leave their garbage on the side of the road for pickup, but I think more people are aware of the dumpster now. Either that or they’re having bigger parties now,” Derouche said.
