DEAR SUN SPOTS: Years ago you published information about someone who collected old greeting cards to make new cards. I have lost that person’s name. Can you help me? I have at least 10 pounds of cards to deliver to whoever is collecting them. Thank you. — C.B. at steno@juno.com or 207-784-7795. Leave a message if I don’t answer.

ANSWER: This answer was published in Sun Spots last year: The last time Sun Spots had this request, it was specifically for Christmas cards, and the following two people responded that they would like them:

* Laurie Lambert, 207-783-8984, laurielambert14@gmail.com

* Holly Cooney, windhamcrag@yahoo.com, 207-782-1181

Meanwhile, the charity St. Jude’s Ranch for Children is still accepting those cards as well as selling the resulting product.

Some of the rules are:

* All types of greeting cards, including Christmas are used. The website says they currently have a need for birthday and thank-you cards.

* Only the card front can be used (please check to be sure the back side is clear of any writing, etc.)

* They cannot accept Hallmark, Disney or American Greeting cards.

* The 5- by 7-inch size or smaller is preferred.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the person looking for a rug hook, check with Grammy’s Craft Knit ‘N Stitch, phone 207-966-3352. She has a large assortment of supplies.

I have a recipe that calls for “Patty pans.” What are these?

A lady told me there was a place that wanted plastic boxes and dishes for crafts. She thought it was on Minot Avenue in auburn. And she said she read about it in Sun Spots. Can you help? Thanks. — Mary via mail.

ANSWER: “Patty pans” are a type of summer squash and many recipes call for it to be sauteed or stuffed. Zucchini can be often be substituted for patty pan squash. Patty pans are round with a scalloped edge. They are best served when they are immature as that is when they are most tender.

Sun Spots was unable to find information that ran in this column about a place looking for plastic boxes and dishes for crafts. There was an organization in Oxford looking for empty bowls for a fundraising event. Do you think that was it? Do you have more information about the place on Minot Avenue?
