ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke to staff at two local businesses that both sell stepping stones made from natural stone. Both sell products that are sold by the pallet, by the pound or individually, but you need to visit the stores to see if the stones you want can be purchased individually. Visit Gagne & Son at 270 Riverside Drive in Auburn (207-782-1132) and Petro’s Hardware & Landscape Center at 965 Minot Avenue in Auburn (207-783-0447). Good luck with your project.

If you know how to contact these individuals, please contact Judith Callahan at 207-345-3024.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing on behalf of men leaving the Maine prison system in search of employment as they return to the community. Initial re-entry to the community is overwhelming when someone has been incarcerated for a lengthy period. The shock of suddenly being back on the streets from a life of ordered discipline turns into an abrupt routine of unexpected rejection, denial and anticipatory anxiety. The arduous search for work means hitting the pavement for long hours with no success. There is no money for bus fare or access to suitable work clothing in presenting for a job application.
I would like to propose the idea of employer mentoring for those individuals with previous job skills. Men with a solid work history and competency in their field of employment deserve a chance to start over. Mentorship offers the former inmate the opportunity to work toward stability while transitioning back to community life. I would like to talk with anyone interested in helping inmates in search of work. Call 207-333-9247 or email poetwriter07@yahoo.com. Thank you. — Calvin E. Dube, Cell to Street Outreach, Lewiston.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is a “thank you” for the most prompt response to my letter seeking a replacement of a broken Thomas Kincade collectors plate from his “Home Is Where The Heart Is” collection. The response was great, but not my plate. I am not giving up. Still hoping for that “miracle.” — M.L.S., Auburn, 207-784-5133.
HI SUN SPOTS: How time flies. I guess it’s that time once again asking for magazine donations to be taken to various nursing homes. It has already started as a lady brought me some. Bless her, and she brought just what I have requested: recent magazines in good condition. Examples: Woman’s Day, Family Circle, Country Woman, Better Homes, and Sports Illustrated; they also enjoy looking at various catalogs. After doing this for so many years, I pretty much know what they like. Thank you and God bless. — Vi in Auburn at 207-784-3803.
