ANSWER: Sun Spots called a few local farms and did not find any that are selling native all-white corn, which is known as silver corn. Perhaps some of our readers know where it can be bought locally and will write in to let us know. Good luck!

HI SUN SPOTS: We read all the information you have every day in the Sun Journal paper. A while back something came out that Stavros Mendros was getting a petition out to have people sign, to get a vote to do away with two years of financial support for asylum seekers. Nothing has come out in the paper or the news where this petition can be signed. Could you please print the information on Sun Spots so people will be informed? I tried to find Mendros’s phone number or make contact with him with negative results. — No Name in Lewiston.

ANSWER: The Sun Journal published an article written by Christopher Cousins, Bangor Daily News, on July 13, in which it was reported, “Mendros and four others seek to repeal LD 369, which was sponsored by Sen. Eric Brakey, R-Auburn. The proposal originally sought to eliminate General Assistance benefits for certain immigrants but was amended to allow the benefits to continue for up to 24 months. General Assistance, which is administered by municipalities but funded jointly by state and local governments, provides emergency aid for housing, medicine and other basic needs. Along with Mendros and Brakey, signing the preliminary paperwork were Rep. Deborah Sanderson, R-Chelsea; Rep. Randall Greenwood, R-Wales; Alicia McClure of Lisbon and Loretta County of Lisbon.”

Public contact information for Sen. Eric Brakey is as follows: His office 207-287-1505; website http://www.mainesenategop.com/index.php/your-senators/eric-brakey; cell 207-406-0897; and email sen.eric.brakey@gmail.com.
