1930 – 2015
LEWISTON — Phyllis A. Smith, 84, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 29, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Wilton on Dec. 30, 1930, the daughter of Harold I. Buker and Doris E. (Lincoln) Buker. She attended school in Wilton. On Dec. 31, 1951, she married William Smith. He passed away in 1982.
Phyllis worked at Norwock Shoe for 20 years, Livermore Falls Baking Co. for 20 years, and also worked as a cook at various restaurants and she volunteered as a driver for Community Concepts, where she enjoyed her job helping people. She drove 62,000 volunteer miles in one year.
Phyllis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Dixfield and the Oxford County American Legion Forty & Eight. Phyllis enjoyed knitting, driving, sewing and scratch tickets.
She is survived by her six sons, Philip Buker and his wife, Deborah, of Standish, David R. Smith Livermore Falls, William Smith Jr. and his wife, Dottie, of Naples, Kenneth Smith of Livermore Falls, Timothy Smith of Livermore, and Shawn Smith of Bangor; four daughters, Carol Pauley and her husband, Larry, of Jay, Debbie Hathaway and her husband, Ronsel, of Wareham, Mass., Norma Bowman and her husband, Jack, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Doris Austin and her husband, Ivan of Turner; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Mac-Kissock of Virginia, Marylin Howard of Houlton, Glennys Wilkins and husband, Bernal, of Winthrop; brothers, Clayton Buker and his wife, Annie, of New Hampshire, and Richard Buker and his wife, Lynne, of Virginia.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Smith; her son, Norman Smith; daughter, Joyce Ridley; daughter-in-law, Elaine Smith; brothers, Thurlow, Vinton and Harold Buker; and sisters, Rita Powers, Harriet Evans and Sheilia Leo.
