Logan Ouellette and Brady Corson, both 10, of Greene, operate a self-built robot over an incline Thursday at University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College. The boys were among 17 youngsters who attended the Maine Robotics Summer Camp. Children ages 9 to 12 learned basic programming and engineering design, said camp instructor Jim Rowe, also an Auburn Middle School teacher. “They start out by building robots we have planned for them. By the end, they’re doing their own creations,” Rowe said. The camp is part of a statewide network of camps sponsored by Maine Robotics. The goal is to encourage the next generation to become mechanical or electrical engineers.
