LEWISTON — Healthy Androscoggin has developed a user-friendly toolkit to help businesses support breastfeeding mothers that choose to return to the workplace for National Breastfeeding Month, held in August.

The toolkit will provide employers with all they need to know about state law, the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies, as well as the overall benefits to the workplace.

There were many organizations involved in collecting information from local businesses to assess their knowledge and what barriers they might face when dealing with this topic. Healthy Androscoggin collaborated with Bates College, Central Maine Medical Center, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center as well as the Western Maine Community Action Women, Infants and Children program to develop a toolkit that would be user-friendly and acceptable for most business settings.

Healthy Androscoggin and the aforementioned organizations can work with businesses to help create a work environment that is supportive of the health and well-being of employees and their families. Workplaces interested should contact Katherine Lary at 330-7881 or laryka@cmhc.org for more information or to receive a toolkit.
