DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Congregational Church, known locally as “the Church on the Hill,” is hosting its third annual quilt show and tea party Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16.

Member Bev Glover said Thursday that the show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16. There will be a $3 suggested admission donation for each day, she added.

“We’re also encouraging people to bring any of their old quilts or any of their hand-knitted items to put on display at the quilt show,” Glover said. “People can drop off their quilts from 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 14, and we’ll make sure they’re on display on Saturday and Sunday. The quilts will have to be picked up by 4 p.m. on Sunday.”

Glover said “fancy tea and dessert items” can be purchased for $5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Leslie Skibitsky is in charge of running that section of the quilt show,” Glover said. “We’re also using a lot of the tea cups that were donated to us by Lucille and Lyman Holman.”

Attendees can also purchase raffle tickets for a hanging quilt knitted by Kristi Holmquist, a member of the planning committee for the upcoming Dixfield Outdoor Market on Sunday, Aug. 16. The drawing will be at the town gazebo at 3 p.m.

Holmquist said every quilt on display at the show “has a story behind it” and has “some sort of significance.”

“There are a lot of people that said they wanted to drop off their quilts to display at the quilt show, but decided not to, because their quilts are tucked away somewhere and smell like mothballs,” Holmquist said. “We’re definitely encouraging people to bring their quilts, no matter how old they are.”

Deb Morang, chairwoman of the Outdoor Market’s planning committee, agreed.

“People shouldn’t worry about whether or not their quilts are dirty or worn out,” she said. “That just means that they’ve been well-used and have seen a lot of love. Plus, nobody notices the mistakes on quilts. Only the people who made the quilts see the mistakes.”
