BETHEL — In recognition of National Community Health Center Week, the Bethel Family Health Center is accepting cash and food donations to benefit the Bethel Food Pantry until Friday, Aug. 21.
Bethel Family Health Center employee Kathy Perry-Abbott said Wednesday that the health center participated in National Community Health Center Week for the first time last year, and found it to be a “very successful” endeavor.
“We ended up collecting about four boxes of food and $140 in cash donations,” she said. “The nice thing about the cash donations is that the Bethel Food Pantry gets their food from Good Shepherd Food-Bank, and they’re able to get a discounted price on the food. That means with $140, they could get over $300 worth of food.”
The staff of the Bethel Family Health Center has also aided the Bethel Food Pantry “around Thanksgiving by having each staff member bring in food items,” Perry-Abbott said, adding that holidays are the “perfect time to donate.”
She said she and the rest of the Bethel Family Health Center are anticipating to “break that record” in their second year.
The Bethel Food Pantry is looking for high-protein items such as peanut butter, canned chicken, beans and tuna. All donations can be dropped off in the health center’s waiting room.
