WESTBROOK — A woman allegedly dancing in the middle of Route 302 Friday morning led to a police standoff that landed her and a man behind bars, according to police.
Officers were called to the area of 156 Bridgton Road around 10 a.m. when it was reported that Louise Dorazio, 48, of Westbrook was dancing in the street and hindering traffic, Westbrook police Capt. Michael Nugent said.
Police gave her a warning and left, but returned about a half-hour later and placed her under arrest, according to Nugent. At that point, Dorazio’s companion, Richard Brichetto, 49, also of Westbrook, attempted to interfere with the arresting officers, Nugent said.
Brichetto subsequently went back into his residence, but came back out a short time later with what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun, threatened police again and went back inside, Nugent said. Shortly after, he emerged onto the residence’s roof with a knife to his throat, encouraging police to shoot him.
Police shut down Route 302 between East Bridge and Pride Streets while police negotiated with Brichetto, who climbed down onto the residence’s rear porch and was taken into custody.
Brichetto was charged with criminal threatening and creating a police standoff while Dorazio is accused of obstructing a public way, refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release.
They were both taken to Cumberland County Jail.
