29th Annual Leon Truman Oxford Hills Chamber Golf Classic
The perfect summer day greeted 104 golfers on Monday, Aug. 10 at Norway Country Club for the 29th Annual Leon Truman Chamber Golf Classic.
Thirteen teams hit the links in the morning and then another 13 teams went out in the afternoon. The day’s winner with a low gross of 52 was the Chalmers Insurance Group team. Second place low gross was Norway Country Club with a 56 and third place went to Oxford Federal Credit union with a 57.
The low net winner was the Twin City Financial Group team with a 47.7. Following close behind was the La Quinta Inn team with a 47.8 and third place went to the Norway Savings Bank Men’s team with a 48.8.
Other tournament winners included Miles Hunt. He was the only golfer to sink the putt on the putting green and won a 32-inch flat screen television. Quinn Allen won a stay-and-play package from the Bethel Inn Resort for the On the Green contest. Northeast Bank team had the best poker hand at the Casino Hole, which earned them four rounds of golf at Point Sebago. The day’s longest drive went to Travis Brooks and Janet Nelson. The closest to the pin winner was Mike Godin.

Hold 3 Gun Shoot
The Western Maine Fish & Game Club will be holding a 3 Gun Shoot on Sunday Aug. 23 at the Club Range on Route 117 in Harrison just past the Transfer Station starting at 10 a.m. Participants will provide their own guns (rifle, handgun and shotgun) and ammo/shot shells. Each participant will shoot 5 shots on the rifle range, 5 shots on the handgun range and 25 shots on the trap field. Bring extra ammunition in case of a shoot-off. The top prize is a Stevens Model 320 – 12 gauge pump shotgun with two barrels (18” and 28”). Other prizes are available. The winner of the shotgun must pass a background check in order to claim the prize. Refreshments will be available. The entry fee is $30. Rain date is Aug. 30.
