LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter is offering no-cost programs throughout September to help job seekers improve skills and get back into the workforce.

There will be a job fair from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Sept. 14, at the CareerCenter with 20-plus employers, all of whom are hiring, on hand to talk with job seekers. Those attending should be prepared with a resume and to have an “interview-like” conversation.

GATEway to Employment: From 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 3 and 17. Learn how the CareerCenter can help. Registration required.

Job Search Skills/Criminal History: From 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, delivered in two, one-hour parts. First hour, tools needed to be successful in a job search. Second hour for those with a criminal history with discussion on how to sell skills rather than your background.

Resumes and Basics and Build a Resume Workshop: From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Lewiston CareerCenter; 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Auburn Public Library. Computers will be available. Participants must be able to type their own resume.

Interview Skills/Mock Interviews: From 2:30-4:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, the basics about interviewing; will include a brief overview and mock interviews.

New Mainers Workshop — How to Complete Paper and Online Job Applications: From 9-11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24. Somali interpreters will be on hand; if other language interpreters are needed, please request by Sept. 18.

Career Decision Making: From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21 (part I) and Friday, Sept. 25 (part II). Review the factors involved in making career decisions. Registration required.

Training Orientation: An overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. This is for people interested in pursuing training and education. If you are interested in job search only, consider the “Job Search Skills” workshop. Essentials of College Planning for Adults: Basic steps for successful college enrollment. Bring last year’s income tax forms to the appointment. Register by calling 800-281-3703.

Orientation for People with Disabilities: From 2-3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23. For people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation services. Service providers are also welcome to attend. Registration not required.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge. Maine veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs.
