RANGELEY — The fourth annual Rangeley Trail Town Festival will kick off Friday night with an Outdoor Film Festival at the Rangeley Inn & Tavern. It will be followed Saturday by events, including an ice cream eating contest.
Rangeley was designated an official Appalachian Trail Community in 2012. Nestled amid mountains, lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, the town has hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, downhill and Nordic skiing, ATV riding and snowmobiling, according to the festival’s website.
Greg Andrews, one of the organizers of the festival, said every year they celebrate not only the AT but all of the trails in the area.
This year, the film festival, which begins 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Rangeley Inn, will offer seven films for viewing: “Thai Boxing,” “Minute of Maine Series,” “The Hunt For Aquatic Invaders,” “The Tightest Line, “Lift Talk” and “Only the Essential.” The screening schedule and brief descriptions of the films can be found on the film festival’s website, www.maineoutdoorfilmfestival.com.
The suggested donation is $5, and $2 for those younger than 12 to benefit the Rangeley Trail Town Festival, Greg Andrews, one of the organizers, said.
Saturday’s events run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Haley Pond Park at the corner of Pond and Main streets and include exhibits, games and food. Live music starts at 1 p.m.
The ice cream contest is at 3 p.m. It is free to hikers. A donation of $2 is suggested for all others. More information on the festival can be found at www.rangeleytrailtown.com.
A hiker reunion, campfire, marshmallows and other activities will be at the Farmhouse Inn and Restaurant at 7 p.m.
