LEWISTON — With five people seeking the mayor’s chair and challengers for five of seven seats on the City Council, Lewiston’s municipal ballot will be full.
Friday was the last day candidates for city office could pass nominating petitions to confirm a spot on the fall ballot.
Voters go to the polls Nov. 3 for the state and municipal election. All seats on the School Committee and City Council are open, including the mayor’s seat.
Four candidates are seeking to replace incumbent Mayor Robert Macdonald, who is seeking his third term. They include Maine People’s Alliance Communications Director Ben Chin, Realtor Steve Morgan, banking specialist Luke Jensen and Charles Soule.
In the City Council races, only incumbent Ward 4 Councilor Shane Bouchard is virtually guaranteed another term. No one submitted papers to challenge Bouchard.
Newcomer Isobel Moiles faces a similar situation in Ward 3, with no other candidate seeking the seat.
Incumbents face challengers in three wards. Leslie Dubois will face Jim Lysen for the Ward 1 seat she holds, Kristen Cloutier will face Blaine Linton and Mike Lachance faces Kristine Kittredge in Ward 7.
Both Wards 2 and 6 will elect new councilors, replacing outgoing Councilor Denis D’Auteuil in Ward 2 and Mark Cayer in Ward 6.
Ward 2 voters will have a choice between Tim Lajoie and Marc Roy. Ward 6 voters have three candidates to choose from: Joline Landry, Stephen Miller and Brian Wood.
