SALEM — Aleski Pirttijoki netted a pair of goals to lead Mtn. Valley to a 4-0 victory over Mt. Abram in boys’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
Pirttijoki opened the scoring by beating a defender and out racing everyone to the goal at 13:25 into the contest. The Falcons (2-0) led 2-0 at the half.
Goalie Glendon Howard made nine saves for the Roadrunners (0-1), while goalie Jacob Beaucheu got the shutout in net with six saves for Mtn. Valley.
Hampden 4, Oxford Hills 0
PARIS — Senior forwad Nick Chasse pocketed a pair of goals to lead Hampden Academy to a 4-0 shutout over Oxford Hills in KVAC boys’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Broncos (1-1) controlled the ball up and down the field, putting up an unpenetrable defense along the way.
Goalie Jake Beauchesne made 19 saves for the Vikings (0-2), while goalie Kyle Townsesnd stopped 11 shots to earn the shutout victory in net for Hampden.
Edward Little 1, Messalonskee 1
OAKLAND — Edward Little and Messalonskee battled to a 1-1 draw in boys’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Eddies (0-0-2) opened the scoring early at 37:25 of the first half on a goal from Mohammed Abdraba and an assist to Noah Perron.
The Eagles (1-0-1) quickly answered, as Jack Moore tallied at 34:10. The teams went back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the game, unable to break the deadlock.
Goalie Owen Mower made five saves as Edward Little outshot Messalonskee 15-10 in the contest.
Erskine 4, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Luke Peabody led a group of four players to record goals Tuesday as Erskine hustled to a 4-0 victory over Leavitt in a KVAC boys’ soccer tilt.
Josh Reed, Noah Bonsant and Raymond Weymouth also tallied for the Eagles (2-0) to complete the scoring.
Denver Culivan needed only two saves to preserve the shutout. Lucas Perry turned aside eight shots between the posts for Leavitt (1-1).
Lisbon 5, Telstar 0
LISBON — Austin Fournier registered a hat trick Tuesday to propel Lisbon to a 5-0 romp over Telstar in a MVC boys’ soccer matchup.
Austin Bedford and Steve Martin also tallied for Dan Sylvester’s Greyhounds (2-0), while Brad Boulet (2) and Josh Huston (1) contributed with assists.
Jonah Sautter made two saves for Lisbon to notch the shutout, while Tanner Wheeler deflected 10 of 20 shots fired in his direction for Telstar (1-1).
Lewiston 13, Skowhegan 0
LEWISTON — Maslah Hassan and Abdi Shariff each registered a hat trick Tuesday as Lewiston overpowered Skowhegan, 13-0, in a lopsided KVAC boys’ soccer matchup.
Abdukarim Abdulle chipped in for the Blue Devils (2-0) with two goals, while Abtirizak Ali, Abtiaviv Shaleh, Noralddin Othman, Muktar Ali and Benjamin Musese also tallied to complete the scoring.
Austin Wing (2) and Alex Rivet (2) combined to made four saves for Lewiston, while Gavin Patten turned aside 17 shots for Skowhegan.
Mt. Blue 3, Cony 3
AUGUSTA — Evan Backus, Tristin McFarlane and Sam Smith all tallied for Mt. Blue Tuesday as they battled to a 3-3 stalemate in KVAC boys’ soccer action.
The Cougars outshot their opponents 11-6 yet failed to overpower the Rams.
Men’s Soccer
Bates 2, Newbury 0
HAVERHILL, Mass. — Veterans Peabo Knoth and Luis Pereira supplied the goals and first-year Drew Parsons added an assist as the Bates men’s soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 2-0 non-conference win over Newbury College on Tuesday night at Trinity Stadium.
The host Nighthawks (2-1) were outshot by the Bobcats (1-0) by a 14-8 margin in a much closer game than the last matchup between the squads, a 9-0 Bates win on Oct. 1, 2014 in Lewiston. Bates had a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal and 2-1 in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Polito made two saves in Bates’ shutout victory.
Knoth Bates’ All-NESCAC forward, scored Bates’ first goal of the season, and his 12th career tally, with an assist by Parsons in the 17th minute of the game. Parsons was one of three newcomers in Bates’ starting lineup, along with sophomore David Murphy and first-year Drew Munoz.
Pereira, who came off the bench and tallied a team-high six shots, doubled the Bobcats’ lead with an unassisted goal less than two minutes after halftime.
