LEWISTON — “Cholesterol: What you Need to Know” is the subject of a Central Maine Medical Center Accenting Your Health presentation set for Thursday, Sept. 17.

Family nurse practitioner Carol Freshley will cover the basics about cholesterol: what it is; what it does in the body; how it is affected by different medications; and how to work with a health care provider to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease caused by cholesterol-related problems.? She will focus on lifestyle choices that are important to improving cholesterol levels.

Freshley works as a nurse practitioner for the Edumedics Chronic Condition Program through Central Maine Healthcare’s Healthy Decisions Program. She has many years of experience as a certified diabetes educator. In her current position she focuses on health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, and the education and management of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. She is trained to assess motivation and readiness to change, and to provide people with the information they need to make informed decisions about health care and lifestyle choices.

The program will be presented at 1:30 p.m. first floor Young Wing Conference Room, located in the 60 High Street building on the CMMC campus.

There is no charge for attending the presentation.
