JAY — Police are investigating the theft of five rifles on Monday from an East Jay Road residence.

There was no sign of forced entry, detective Michael Mejia said.

The burglary happened within hours of the homeowner leaving the home and before he returned, he said.

The theft was reported at 3:25 p.m.

Mejia assisted officer Stephanie Guillemette in the investigation.
