DEAR SUN SPOTS: The YWCA of Central Maine puts on a haunted house for the children every year. We are in need of some Halloween inflatables to really improve the scary atmosphere this year. We are looking for the large ones that are used outdoors. We also are looking for some scary music cds. Any inflatable Halloween decoration in good condition may be dropped off at the YWCA 130 East Ave., Lewiston. Thank you, Louise Murphy.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know of any person/business who will take a fairly large record collection (290 records) consisting of vocals, easy listening, jazz, Broadway, classical, and opera? My husband passed away last year and I am hoping someone will appreciate his record collection. I can be reached at 207-782-3545.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: As a new member of the Norway community I was surprised to see the local post office closed at noon from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. I assume it’s for lunch and I wonder why they can’t find coverage for one another to allow the office to keep open during that time. I would imagine this noon-time period might be a convenient time for those working in the area to drop in. — No Name via email.
ANSWER: Sun Spots tried calling the Norway post office directly but got voice mail. A report dated Aug. 20, 2015, from “Save the Post Office,” states: “The Postal Service is working on phase two of POStPlan, its initiative to reduce hours and staffing at half the country’s post offices. From September 2012 through February 2015, the Postal Service implemented phase one — 13,000 small post offices had their hours reduced from eight a day to six, four, or even just two, and thousands of career postmasters lost their positions.
“Now the Postal Service is reviewing 5,000 more post offices for a downgrade and reduced hours.” One can deduce that USPS budget cuts play a part in the lunch time closures.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: What happened to the funnies page on Tuesday, Sept. 15? In looking closely, the dates appeared to be from Aug. 15, instead of Sept. 15, and storylines were confusing. My curiosity fuels my question. I did miss having the correct solution to the cryptoquip in today’s paper. — No Name via email.
ANSWER: We inadvertently ran the wrong page on Sept. 15. You may already know this, but on Sept. 16, we ran both the Sept. 15 and 16 comics pages with answers to all puzzles.
