NAPLES — Poland scored the final 20 points of the game to rally past Lake Region, 40-23, end a two-game losing skid and pull even at .500 in Class C South football.

Patrick Jacques’ 38-yard touchdown put the Knights (2-2) ahead to stay, 27-23, in the third quarter. That answered a fumble return for a touchdown by the Lakers’ Marcus Devoe.

Jacques carries 17 times for 271 yards, including a 95-yard TD in the first quarter.

Andrew Demers scored from 18 yards out and John Fossett from 10 yards to put it away in the fourth.

Poland forged ahead 20-17 at the half on a 4-yard run by Yvon Desmarais and a two-point rush by Quinn Callahan. That was the fourth of six lead changes in the game.

The Knights outgained the Lakers 489 yards to 156 but had to overcome 17 penalties and four turnovers.

Demers added 106 yards on 10 carries for the Knights.

Dakota Stover had a kick return TD to spark Lake Region. Douglas Banks threw for one score and Devoe ran for another.

Mt. Blue 32, Hampden 6

HAMPDEN — Christian Whitney rushed 12 times for 130 yards and intercepted two passes Friday night, boosting Mt. Blue to a 32-6 Class B North football win over Hampden.

Mt. Blue (3-1) exploded to a 26-0 halftime lead and won on the road for the second consecutive week.

Zach Meader added 65 yards on the ground. Alex Gilbert made two big catches from Ryan Pratt, leading to Mt. Blue scores.

Defensively, Nate Pratt-Holt also picked off a pass for the Cougars. Adam Mealey and Will Gunter each made eight tackles.

Tyler Knights caught five passes for 60 yards and Brendan McIntyre grabbed four for 47 to lead the Broncos (1-3).
