AUBURN — A new era in county government is about to begin with the naming of an Androscoggin County administrator.
At Wednesday’s meeting, county commissioners unanimously named Larry Post as the first county administrator. Post is scheduled to begin his duties Oct. 19.
Post, 62, was the administrator for Somerset County from June 2010 until he abruptly resigned in December 2012 in what he then called a “mutual parting.”
He also served as town manager of Eastport, Hartland and St. Albans, where he still lives. He was town manager of St. Albans for 30 years.
“Larry had the background that we were looking for,” Commissioner Randall Greenwood said. “He has a diverse background. He has longevity in other positions. I was very satisfied with his tenure as a municipal manager and he has county experience as well.”
Commissioners interviewed three candidates for the new position, which was created by the new County Charter. Greenwood said one of the candidates withdrew, but he felt Post was the top candidate.
“I do a lot of thinking from the gut and, in my opinion, Larry was the one who seemed the most qualified for the position,” Greenwood said.
After the meeting, Post said his background as a town manager and a county administrator will serve him well in his new position.
“I bring a sense of professionalism in reaching out to both the county and the municipalities because I’ve done both,” Post said. “I have an understanding how they both work. … I enjoy this kind of work.”
Post said he hopes to cut down on what will be a 90-minute commute by finding an apartment in the county.
