1932 – 2015

SOUTH PARIS — Jeanette M. Allen, 83, of Norway died Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in Auburn on May 9, 1932, the daughter of Ralph A. and Ruth Lillian Pike Sampson. She attended South Paris schools and had been a homemaker all of her life. She worked at Paris Manufacturing, Allen’s Polish Shop and Newberry’s in Norway. She married Paul F. Allen on July 24, 1948.

Jeanette was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Norway, the Music Boosters and was a volunteer for the Community Lunch Program. She enjoyed sewing, baking cakes, karate and dancing. She loved music and the theater; she was an award-winning songwriter and received the Maine Songwriter of the Year Award. She wrote short stories and poetry as well.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula J. Allen Nielsen and husband, Walter, and Cherrie Allen Bonney; her son, Paul L. Allen and wife, Beth; 15 grandchildren, Robin, Amy, Vaikko Peter, Siiri, Hannah, Justin, Crystal, Naomi, Charity, Julia, Isaac, Joanna, P.J., Jodie and Heather; 39 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1999; grandson, Jeremy (Jamie); son-in-law, Rocky; brothers, Ralph A. Sampson and Leroy (Bud) Wing; and sister, Gloria Twitchell.
