A state agency announced Monday the recall of prepared frozen foods with chicken that have been distributed in Maine and may be contaminated with salmonella. 

Aspen Foods, a Chicago company, is recalling approximately 561,000 pounds of frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken products in meals that appear to be ready-to-eat, according to a statement released by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

The meals were produced between Aug. 25 and Sept. 17 with “best if used by” dates of Aug. 23 to Dec. 15, 2015.

Results from U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service sampling revealed positive results that matched the outbreak strain of salmonella enteritidis to Aspen Foods products.

The product subject to recall bears the establishment number “P-1358” inside the USDA mark of inspection. This product was shipped to retail stores and food service locations nationwide.

These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, according to the announcement.
