SABATTUS – Selectmen voted 3-0 Tuesday night renew a contract with Lisbon for code enforcement duties for one year.
The cost is $22,500, an increase of $2,500 over last year. Dennis Douglass is the code enforcement officer for both towns.
Public Works will soon add a tractor/front-end loader/snowblower to its fleet. The board accepted a bid of $22,000 from Waterman Farm Machinery in Sabattus for a lease-to-purchase. It was the lowest bid.
The tractor is equipped with 4-wheel drive, a heated cab and a detachable sander. The expenditure was approved by voters in the 2015-16 budget.
The board agreed to contract with the Fire Chief Association of Massachusetts at a one-time cost of $117 to get the best value on a 2016, 2,500-gallon tanker fire truck. Fire Chief Marc Veilleux said it allows the lowest bulk purchasing price to to only select necessary accessories for the truck.
Veilleux predicts the connection will save the town around $6,000 or allow for the same amount in truck upgrades. The town has $300,000 in an escrow account for the purchase.
The board agreed to award a three-year contract to Grimmel Industries of Topsham for removing the town’s bulky waste and demolition debris for $63 per ton for the first two years, and $65 per ton for the third year.
The town typically disposes of 350 tons of this material annually. The waste includes building materials, furniture, wallboard, metal conduits and pipes.
The contract is about $3,300 less than the bid received from Almighty Waste of Auburn.
