1934 – 2015
MECHANIC FALLS — Clayton E. Polland, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
He was born in Lewiston on May 9, 1934, to Carleton and Evelyn Polland. He graduated from Casco High School in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Winona Fickett, on Aug. 27 of the same year. They celebrated their 61st anniversary. Clayton worked in the finishing department at A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. for 29 years. Following that, he enjoyed working for Joe LeForge as a carpenter.
For many years, Clayton served as a volunteer firefighter in Otisfield and was a member of the Otisfield/Oxford Rescue. He was also a member of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church. From a young age, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he especially loved the time he spent with his grandsons in the woods and on the lake.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters and a son, Raye and her husband, Mark Rowe, Genise Stern, Carol and her husband, Arthur Montana, and Jeffrey and his wife, Roberta. He is also survived by a special daughter-in-law, Karen Ayers; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He also leaves a brother, Merlen and his wife, Sue; and a brother-in-law, Carlton Fickett.
He was predeceased by his parents; his twin brother, Carleton; and his grandson, James Clayton Knowlton.
