1943 – 2015

FAYETTE — Howard D. Jackson, 71, of New Vineyard died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Fayette.

Howard was born on Dec. 31, 1943, a son of Ruphelle (Lambert) and Howard S. Jackson. He received his education from local schools, graduating from Livermore Falls High School in 1963. Howard went on to start his career as a carpenter, learning the trade from his brother, Tim. He entered the U.S. Army in 1964 and humbly served his country for four years. For a period of time, he was employed at International Paper and later, for Fred Whittier — but he primarily worked for himself as a carpenter, which he enjoyed thoroughly.

On May 4, 1985, he married Leita Lovell, and they shared 30 years of marriage together.

Howard was a Maine outdoorsman and spent much of his free time camping and doing what he was most passionate about — fishing. Howard would travel to various lakes and ponds, fishing and ice-fishing. He was a quiet man, but was not shy when it came to food! He enjoyed a square meal, whether it was at the dinner table or socializing over refreshments at the East Wilton Union Church, where he became active in recent months.

Although he retired six years ago, Howard continued to work as a carpenter, most recently working on a job in Isle au Haut off the coast of Stonington, which was an area he loved. He also enjoyed reading, particularly books by Maine authors, and Westerns, most notably William Johnstone.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leita Jackson of New Vineyard; children, Howard Kevin Jackson of New Vineyard, Matthew Jackson and his wife, Jennifer, of Vassalboro, and Craig Jackson and his wife, Ruth, of Oakland; stepchildren, Dale Kuczinski of Lewiston, Beth Paradis and her husband, Joe, of Industry, John Sinskie and his wife, Carrie, of Idaho, Melissa Conley and her husband, Tim, of Virginia, and Michele Bailey and her husband, Konrad, of Farmington; a brother, Timothy Turcotte and his wife, Brenda, of Livermore; a sister, Alta Martin of North Jay; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Rebecca Turcotte; a brother, Leroy Turcotte; and stepfather, Eugene Turcotte.
