ROXBURY — A public hearing on speeding along Main Street is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Town Office.

At the board’s Aug. 25 meeting, resident Stan Kaubris told selectmen that during the summer he noticed “a large number of cars and four-wheelers driving crazy and way over the speed limit.” He said if the town decided to purchase speed bumps, he would pay for the first one to be installed.

At the board’s Sept. 8 meeting, resident Heidi Poulin sent a letter to the selectmen seconding Kaubris’ complaint and reporting vehicles speeding near Roxbury Pond. She said he believed additional police patrols would likely have little to no effect because “they would need to be set up there for a while to catch anybody speeding.”

After reading Poulin’s letter to the board, Selectman Tim Derouche said he felt “the issue has gotten serious enough that we ought to look at the possibility of speed bumps.”

Selectmen later said that a public hearing would allow residents to voice their opinion on the issue and brainstorm ideas about how to move forward.

While selectmen estimated that a speed bump would cost between $3,000 and $4,000, Kaubris said he found rubber speed bumps that could be temporarily installed for under $1,000.
