1951 – 2015

HAMPDEN — Bruce E. Lindberg, 63, lost his battle with lung cancer on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Eastern Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born Oct. 30, 1951, in Rumford, the son of Virginia (Glover) Lindberg and D. Leonard Lindberg.

Bruce grew up attending Mexico High School and graduated in 1970. He later attended both the University of Maine at Farmington for secondary education as well as University of Maine for his master’s degree in administration and educational leadership. Bruce served in multiple positions at many different high schools throughout Maine, Colorado and the world; including, English teacher, basketball coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal and headmaster. He had a love for education and a great passion for mentoring young people, both in the U.S. and beyond. He was able to share this with others as he opened international schools in China, South Korea and the Philippines. As well as education, Bruce’s lifelong passion was basketball, both as a player, coach and fan.

Bruce is survived by his two children, David Lindberg and his wife, Tina of Lynn, Mass., and Hope High and her husband, John, of Ellsworth; as well as their mother, Wendy Lindberg, of Scarborough; his grandchildren, who are very precious to him, Gavin Lindberg, Grace, Shelby and Brittany High; his mother, Virginia Lindberg of Mexico; sisters, Jennifer Lepage and husband, Michael, of Mexico and Debbie Mayo and her husband, Jim, of Weld; and his nieces and nephews. Bruce cherished his relationship with his cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family. He was lucky enough to spend the later part of his life with his partner, Margaret Gross and her family. He developed long lasting relationships throughout his life and has taken pride in these friendships with people from around the country and world. Bruce lived a very full life with no regrets.
