PORTLAND — The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded $178,000 in journalism scholarships to 16 students, all graduates of Maine high schools.
Students will receive financial support for graduate and undergraduate studies at schools across the U.S., including the University of Maine, Bard College, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Ohio State University.
The new 2015 Gannett Scholars are Jill Baker of Freeport; Sam Hill of Portland; Nick McGoldrick of Windham; Nathaniel Trask of Vassalboro; Levi Bridges of Sedgwick; Christopher Crosby of Auburn; and John Dodson of Topsham.
Nine students had their Gannett scholarships renewed: Lainey Cohen of Ellsworth; Ryan Cox of Bar Harbor; Dominique Hessert of Lamoine; Abigail Mace of Readfield; Kirsta McComb of Chester; Erin O’Leary of Auburn; Adam Robinson of Auburn; Cynthia Thielen of Surry; and Joshua Keefe of Veazie.
A volunteer review committee selected the students based on demonstrated interest in journalism, excellence in academic performance and financial need.
Applications for the 2016 Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship will be available in January at high school guidance offices and at www.mainecf.org.
