DEAR SUN SPOTS: We all so appreciate your never-ending source of information that you provide for us. I would like to let people who work with fur, making small bears, know that I have some fur to share. Perhaps I can help them and they can help me. If interested, please call me at 207-926-4042 and leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you. — Liz via mail.
DEAR READERS: Sun Spots wants to remind you that this column is not the place to sell items. Place your items for sale in the classified section of the Sun Journal.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County seeks autumn-colored tablecloths for a new children’s Costume Party on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St. in Auburn. Also needed are donations of candy, costumes and items that can be sold in the boo-tique or included in raffles. This event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 per person, children and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult. We are also looking for volunteers to donate two hours or more of their time at this event between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items can be dropped off at the mansion on Friday, Oct. 23. Call Betty for more information at 207-782-7787.
HI SUN SPOTS: This is for No Name who is inquiring about help for his heating oil. There are numerous places he can check for assistance. The Salvation Army gives fuel vouchers to those who qualify; his local CAP agency (Community Action Programs) may have a separate emergency fund; the churches in his area may have a fund put together or his church (if he attends one) may be able to help; if he’s a vet Wounded Warriors may help. Citizens Energy, which won’t open until mid winter so won’t be of help to him right now, gives away 100 gallons of heating oil to those who qualify. Most heating oil companies do have budget plans but they normally start in the spring and run for a year. To start this late on one, if it’s even offered, will probably result in a monthly payment that may be outside his comfort level. — Good luck.
RESPONSE: Thank you for sharing that information. The Salvation Army Center at 67 Park Street in Lewiston can be reached by phone at 207-783-0801 or email daniel.johnson@use.salvationarmy.org. The Western Maine Community Action program helps people in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Contact them at 800-645-9636 or informationandreferral@wmca.org. Ask for an energy assistance application from Citizens Energy at 1-877-563-4645. The application process takes four to five weeks as it is not an emergency assistance program.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for pieces that go to the game “Perfection.” My students have used these games for years and I do not have a complete set of pieces. I am wondering if perhaps someone has some random pieces or have the game they no longer use. I would be happy to pick up locally or they could be dropped off at my school’s office. Thank you in advance. — Steve in Lewiston, sgagne@lewistonpublicschools.org.
