Every day, I hear and read about problems with welfare — there is too much or too little — corporate welfare, etc.
But now there is a group that is pushing for another form of welfare — political welfare — and it is coming up in the election Nov. 3 as Question 1.
Question 1 does not keep big money out of politics. Its passage would change nothing about how much money PACs can receive or spend. It does not increase transparency. Well-funded special interest groups can outsmart that provision.
What it will do is give politicians more of people’s hard-earned money that they have paid in taxes to increase robo calls and annoying junk mail. It will take money from the General Fund — money that should go to schools or nursing homes.
I do not want my tax money to be used to support a candidate that I do not agree with, and I am sure other people feel the same about their opposing political party.
I encourage others to join me in voting no on Question 1 on Nov. 3.
