BETHEL – Bethel Auto Sales will host a fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 31, to raise money for three local families affected by cancer, employee Brett Blaszczak said Monday morning.

Smash the Cancer Out will allow people affected by cancer in some way to pay money to swing a baseball bat at a van.

It’s set for 10 a.m. at Bethel Auto Sales, 214 West Bethel Road/Route 2.

“It’s a way to not only raise money for these local families, but for people to get out their frustration,” Blaszczak said. “We know the families around here that have been fighting cancer, and we thought this would be a good way of getting the community involved.”

All money raised will go to the families of local children who have been affected by cancer, including Telstar students Jonathon Locke and Regan Kauf, who passed away on Oct. 18.

A van, which will have the words “Smash the Cancer Out” printed on the side, is being donated by Bethel Auto Sales, Blaszczak said.

“We found a van that wasn’t in the greatest of shape,” he said. “We figured that with a van, there would be more stuff to smash.”

The cost is $5 per swing, or three swings for $10, for adults 20 and older; $3 per swing, or three swings for $6, for those 13 to 19 years old; and $2 per swing, or three swings for $4, for children 12 and younger.

Bethel Auto Sales wrote on its Facebook page that “for those that need more than three swings, $50 gets you 50 swings – if your arms and hands can handle it!”

Blaszczak said others sponsors are Bethel Shop ‘n Save, which will provide food and drinks for participants; NAPA Auto Parts, which will provide the paint for the van; WOXO; and Crescent Park School.

“It’s really cool to see people coming together in this community to help out families in need,” Blaszczak said. “It’s a sad situation, but it’s awesome that there’s a lot of support out there.”
