1926 – 2015

WINDSOR, CONN. — Robert Osborne Maliar, 89, of Windsor, Conn., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Son of the late John and Marion (McAusland) Maliar, he was born in Lewiston on March 23, 1926. He was the youngest of four boys.

After graduation from high school, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and served in Panama during World War II. Returning from military service, Bob enrolled at Bentley College in Boston, earning his degree in accounting in 1948.

Bob’s career involved increasing responsibility as an accountant/controller for B. Peck Company and Central Maine General Hospital, both in Lewiston. In 1967, Bob moved his family to Windsor, Conn., after accepting a position in Medicare administration with the Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford, Conn. He was recruited to the Aetna Insurance Co. in 1979 and retired from there in 1989.

As a younger man Bob enjoyed gardening, amateur radio, skiing, hunting and fishing. Bob loved to tell stories and he had dozens of them, generally involving family activities or antics. He appreciated a good joke and spoke to EVERYONE with a kind word or comment. After retirement, Bob and Jeannine moved to Florida and lived there for 17 years, returning to Windsor in 2005.
