Glimpses of Iran: A Presentation by Parivash Rohani — 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, North Dining Hall, UMF Olsen Student Center. To Light a Candle: A film by Maziar Bahari — 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, Thomas Auditorium, UMF Preble/Ricker Hall. The Baha’i are a religious minority in Iran who are systematically imprisoned, tortured and killed by the Iranian government. The Islamic regime bans them from studying or teaching in Iranian universities. But since 1987, the Baha’is have been running BIHE, an underground university with hundreds of students in Iran and dozens of teachers in Iran and around the world. “To Light a Candle” shows how a small minority has defied the brutal systematic religious persecution through non-violent resistance and educating their youth.
