I have to marvel at Dave Granlund’s editorial cartoon artwork (Oct. 27). I had read about the dangers of processed meat and then saw his cartoon in the Sun Journal. He was very speedy with it, as well as others I have saved from before.

It is strange, but just recently I had looked through an old calendar from my former home town of Berlin (Germany). It was from 1964, so the dates match even with this year. The meat products we ate in my home then (what my mother or grandmother cooked) are not always available here — the tongue from an ox or his tail — nor do butchers here always offer liver and kidneys to customers. American wurst does not compare with what was made in Germany.

I am not a big meat eater, perhaps a little beef or chicken, but no bacon, ham or pork chops.

Oh, well, I now live in the U.S.A. and I look forward to Thanksgiving with all those lovely vegetables, plus some turkey, too.
