LEWISTON — The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council hosted Lewiston Jeopardy Night on Wednesday at the public library as part of its Do You do Lew Positive Image Campaign.
Residents of all ages came out to celebrate the city and its rich history.
Eric Hall, chairman of the council, was the master of ceremonies for the game which was fashioned after the popular TV show “Jeopardy.”
“Thank you for helping us with our positive image campaign!” he told the attendees.
The game consisted of two rounds: Back in the Day and Here & Now. Each round had three teams of two people each, for a total of 12 contestants. Each contestant was chosen at random by drawing names from a jar.
Hall reminded the contestants of the rules of the game: “Phrase each answer as a question, like ‘what is’ and then the answer.”
No one remembered to do that.
The first round focused on the history of Lewiston, delving into five topics: Heritage, Vintage Places, The Great Outdoors, Ye Olde Eateries and Ancient Activities. The questions ranged from “which parts of Bates Mill does Fish Bones reside in to where is the still-standing original Quaker meetinghouse, to the shoe strike.
The contestants and crowd were visibly excited to delve into the interesting times in Lewiston’s past.
Only minutes into the first round, a rule had to be implemented to keep the contestants from answering the question too early because of their eagerness and competitive spirit.
The second round was more focused on current events. There were five topics: Lewiston Celebrities, Cool Places, Modern Dives, Exciting Events and Fun Facts.
Questions centered around DaVinci’s Eatery, Fuel, The Dempsey Challenge and Erin Andrews.
Both winning teams from round one and round two were given gift cards from sponsors around the city, including The Italian Bakery, Pedro O’Hara’s and Forage.
Round one winners were Fern Asselin and Cindy Larock; round two, Megan Parks and Jacynthe Jacques.
