A song written by a Lisbon couple may become the tourism promotion theme of a newly independent Caribbean island nation. Sandra and Neil Bourgoin composed their calypso-style “One Happy Island” while lounging on the white sand beaches of the former Dutch colony of Aruba last May, mostly as an expression of affection for the place. “It’s such a wonderful island, and the people are so friendly,” Mrs. Bourgoin said. “We wrote the song together just to try and express our feelings about it.” The Bourgoins are not professional songwriters. She is a certified nurse’s aide, while he works at the Lewiston Sears store. Both, however, have written verse and occasionally composed tunes, none of which was ever published. “This time some of the local people heard our song, and told us we should have it recorded,” she said. “When we got back we went to GAB Studio in Lewiston and had Harry King produce a cassette for us.”
