Marine Corps, Veterans celebration

WAYNE — The 240th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps and Veterans Day will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Cary Memorial Library’s Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

There will be a social hour with hors d’oeuvres, and toasts to all service branches. The Marines will be landing with a cake, and there will be a birthday message and cake-cutting ceremony.

The public is invited.

Lewiston, Auburn seeking crafters, artisans

LEWISTON — The cities of Lewiston and Auburn are looking for 50 local crafters, artists and artisans for a juried event for the Festival of Art and Lights.

The Festival of Art and Lights will take place from noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, and will be followed by the annual Parade of Lights. The events are part of the Twin Cities Holiday Celebration. The events are free and open to the public.

CMCC to host flag-raising ceremony

AUBURN — The Veterans Club of Central Maine Community College will sponsor a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate Veterans Day at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the flag pole in front of the Learning Tower.

President Scott Knapp, an Army veteran, Barbara Barth, an ordained minister and economics instructor at the college, and other guests will speak, followed by the raising of the U.S. and Maine flags.

After the ceremony, there will be another gathering at the Library’s display case in the Hall of Flags to mark a Veterans Club exhibit of materials on the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union Army veterans of the Civil War. The documents are from the holdings of the Androscoggin Historical Society in Auburn. Douglas Hodgkin, president of the Society, will attend the gathering.

The public is invited to attend both events located at 1250 Turner St.

Maine Wildlife Park closing for the season on Veterans Day

GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park will close for the 2015 season at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

The park will recognize and thank all past and present Maine military personnel and veterans for their service by offering free park admission for veterans and their immediate families.

PORTLAND/ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation is seeking applications from Maine-based leadership development organizations and programs to join its Leadership Learning Collaborative.

The one-year Leadership Learning Collaborative program is designed for the staff and directors of leadership programs in Maine. Participants will have the opportunity to identify and develop initiatives that will build capacity for their programs. They will explore curriculum and delivery of leadership programs, alumni engagement, communicating the impact of their programs, and collaboration within the field. Participating organizations will also have the opportunity to apply for capacity-building grants through a competitive process.

Deadline for applications is Friday, Dec.18.
