I write in response to three articles in the Nov. 8 Sun Journal. I found the differences among the three articles to be compelling.

The first article was written by Christopher Cousins of the Bangor Daily News and was about Maine Speaker of the House Mark Eves being seen as a “pushover.” The story reported that Eves has been seen as being possibly too soft and that he needs to get tough with the governor and the Legislature.

Ironically, Eves seems like a really nice guy who still hopes the governor and Legislature can forge a constructive working relationship — talk about turning the other cheek.

The second article was William Slavick’s guest column in which he wrote that humanity has been lost as everyone tries to get ahead of the next guy. A great article. He shows us how we have really lost our way.

The third article was a Washington Post article about how the Dutch people and Dutch children are happy simply by having a sense of community and being nice to each other.

A great set of revealing articles that show we need to get back to the old-fashioned behavior of being nice to each other.

Those articles also make the Republican Party’s bad ways very obvious. They lead us away from humanity.
