DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you so much for your column. It is the thirst thing I read in the morning. I am looking for the person who owned “Sure Start” at 1339 Sabattus Street in Lewiston. I need to have him look at my car remote that he installed in my car. My phone number is 207-782-3154, if not home please leave a message on the answering machine. Thank you for your help. — Jackie B.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Androscoggin Elder Abuse Task Force is collecting items for their Merry Meals project. The holidays can be a difficult time for people who are feeling isolated and this project is designed to reach out to homebound seniors to show them that their community cares. Merry Meals is an effort to give a holiday-themed bag to each recipient of Meals on Wheels in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. The paper bags will be decorated by local school children and contain information on local resources along with items like holiday ornaments.
The Androscoggin Elder Abuse Task Force is a community partnership dedicated to ending elder abuse, generating resources, educating the community, and advocating to meet the needs of elder abuse victims.
The task force will be collecting non-breakable ornaments and other small items for the bags. To make a contribution or for more information, please contact Kelley Glidden, task force chair, at 207-795-6744 or kglidden@safevoices.org.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Monday, Nov. 16, beginning at 6 p.m., join the Lewiston Public Library, the Androscoggin Historical Society, the Maine State Historical Society and the Maine State Library as we spend an evening sorting through old photographs and historic objects in local collections that are missing some identifying details.
We need your knowledge, memories, and detective skills to help us name people, places, and events. And you can bring your own mystery photos, too. We’ll project them for everyone to see and comment on – and hopefully help solve. Bring originals, copies, or scanned photos on a thumb drive. Join us to share ideas, tell local stories, and socialize with friends and neighbors.
In addition to solving the mysteries, we will explore the new “Mystery Corner” of Maine Memory Network (www.mainememory.net) and its related comment thread feature. The event will take place in Callahan Hall and is free to the public. Refreshments will be served. RSVPs are encouraged and appreciated. Please email lplreference@lewistonmaine.gov by Nov. 16, or call 207-513-3135.
