RUMFORD — Selectmen this week will continue discussion on whether officials should switch employee payroll to biweekly and direct deposit.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Rumford Falls Auditorium.
Selectman Frank DiConzo said at the Nov. 5 board meeting that he believed biweekly payroll and direct deposit would be more efficient and save money.
During the meeting, Selectman Mark Belanger asked Town Manager John Madigan if there was any language prohibiting the switch in the union contracts. Madigan said there was nothing in the contracts either for or against it.
Madigan said switching to a biweekly payroll “may be an unnecessary hardship for employees, since some employees live week-to-week.”
The selectmen tasked Town Clerk Beth Bellegarde with drafting a plan.
Other items on the agenda include the following:
* Request for a streetlight near the new Martin Memorial Bridge in Rumford.
* Discussion on Maine Avenue paving project.
* Request for continued funding for the economic development coordinator position.
* Approval of annual town report bid.
* Discussion on upcoming state bridge projects.
