LEWISTON — Jessica Clavet and Bree Bergeron scored a pair of goals each and Meagan Gosselin stopped all but one shot she faced to lead defending state champion Lewiston to a 4-1 season-opening win over Brunswick in girls’ hockey action Friday.
Clavet netted her first of the game at 13:05 of the second frame to put the host Blue Devils (1-0) on the board first.
Jenna Brooks knotted the game at 5:30 of the third period for Brunswick, but the Devils broke it open later in the third. Bergeron netter her first varsity goal at 7:47 to put Lewiston back in front, and Clavet and Bergeron traded empty-net goals in the waning minutes to clinch the victory.
Leavitt/EL/Poland 5, Winslow/Erskine 2
WINSLOW — Saige Arsenault scored a goal and added two assists, Angel Drouin netted a pair of goals and Kaylee Younk had one of each to lead Leavitt/Edward Little/Poland to a season-opening 5-2 win over Winslow/Erskine in girls’ hockey action Friday.
Arsenault, Younk and Drouin scored a goal each in the first frame as the Red Hornets (1-0) unleashed 15 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes.
Winslow’s Miranda Gagne scored the lone goal of the second period, and Paige Veilleux added another quickly in the third to pull the home team within one at 3-2.
But Abby Roy and Drouin put a stop to that rally with a goal each later in the final frame.
Sarah Hammond and Kristen Jordan shared goaltending duties for the Red Hornets in the victory. Kiara Richards stopped 42 of 47 in the loss for the Black Raiders (0-1).

Fighting Spirit 4, Minutemen 2
SALEM N.H. — The L/A Fighting Spirit got back to their winning ways Friday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over the East Coast Minutemen at the Salem Ice Center in Salem, N.H.
David Fish put L/A up 1-0 when he notched his fourth goal of the season. Brady McNulty and Mike Heffernan picked up assists.
The Minutemen responded 17 seconds later with Michael Bellmore finding the back of the net. Rick Mulligan and Jon Mathieu set the goal up. East Coast went into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead when Mason Smith found the back of the net with 1:41 remaining in the period.
L/A stormed back in the second period, scoring three times. Colby Siering scored two shorthanded goals with the first one coming at the 15:41 mark of the period. Siering’s second goal came with 19 seconds remaining with Jordan Crowe notching an assist. Vrees also scored in between Siering’s goals when Tyler Sheridan found Vrees for his 11th goal at the 16:09 mark.
Marcus Mitchell earned his first victory as Fighting Spirit as the York native stopped 19 shots. Aidan Critchlow stopped 58 shots for the Minutemen.
