DEAR SUN SPOTS: Giving back to the community is one of the most rewarding, humbling experiences. Start a new tradition with your friends and family by volunteering this holiday season for our first Family Christmas Dinner. This free community event will be held Christmas Day at the Chesterville Town Hall located at 409 Dutch Gap Road, from noon to 3 p.m.

We are looking for volunteers to help serve a traditional Christmas meal of ham with all the fixings and pies! pies! pies! We are also looking for volunteers to assist with delivery of meals to homebound community members and help transport guests who would otherwise be unable to attend.

If you are interested in volunteering, the opportunities include set up, clean up, waiting tables, meal prep, baking and cooking. Contact Arleen at Knowlton Corner Farm 207-778-6520 for more information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to find out if anyone has a recording of “The Wedding of Lili Marlene,” by Red Ingle and his Natural Seven, with Cinderella G. Stump (Jo Stafford). I had the 78rpm record in 1953. The words are as follows:

“There were tears at the wedding celebration

People cried till they washed their faces clean

There was beer and wine and wine and celebration

At the wedding of Lili Marlene

Down the aisle came old Pa in all his glory

A-slowly dragging Lili by the hand.

The groom was all ready at the altar

He saw the shotgun in Pa’s other hand.

Do you take this man to be your lovin’ husband

Were the words the kind old preacher said.

I sure do but there’s just anuther question.

Can you please tell me this here feller’s name.”

There is more to the song, but that’s all I can remember. It was prior to my wedding day that I heard this. Thank you. — Arthur D. in Lisbon Falls.

ANSWER: Sun Spots found many versions of this song recorded by a variety of musicians (separately from one another) including The Andrews Sisters, Anne Shelton and Frank Sinatra, but none by Red Ingle.

If you don’t hear from someone local who has this recording, and if you feel comfortable shopping online, ebay has this song on record by other artists. It also has other songs on record by Red Ingle. The lyrics to this song sung by the others are different than the lyrics you provided for this song sung by Red Ingle. He was known as a comedy lyricist meaning he took serious songs and made them humorous.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to ask your viewers if anyone knows where I could find a pod egg chair. They are usually white, shaped like an egg with an opening that you can sit in. I’ve seen them online, but only from China. I would appreciate any help. A used one would be okay also. As always thanks for your help. — Debbie at debrod@roadrunner.com or 207-576-7134.

RESPONSE: Sun Spots has seen them at Target and Ikea stores, and like you, online, but not in a local store. Does anyone know if these chairs are sold locally?
